YES LORD!

But Do I Really Mean It?

Yes Lord

We sing a song in our church titled “Yes, Lord, Yes” (written by Lynn Keesecker). The chorus goes like this:

I’ll say yes, Lord, yes
To your will and to your way
I’ll say yes, Lord, yes
I will trust you and obey
When your Spirit speaks to me
With my whole heart I’ll agree
And my answer will be yes, Lord, yes

It’s a wonderful chorus—but much easier to sing than to live out!

There are some key occurrences in Scripture where someone replied to Jesus with “yes, Lord”,  but what exactly were they saying yes to? I want to share with you 4 thoughts on saying yes to Jesus.

1) YES, LORD, YOU ARE!

“She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.”

– John 11:27 KJV

This deals with the PERSON of Christ.

In this text we are witnessing the conversation between Martha and Jesus after her brother has died. He asks her to believe that He is the resurrection and the life even in the wake of her brother’s death. Her response? “Yes, Lord: I believe…”

Believe what?

This is the foundation of any relationship with Christ. Do we truly believe that He is both Lord and Savior? Do we believe everything the Bible says about Him? We must respond with, “Yes, Lord”.

2) YES, LORD, YOU CAN!

“And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, [Thou] Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.”

– Mat 9:27-28 KJV

Now we move to the POWER of Christ.

Here two blind men followed Him asking for mercy. What was the prerequisite for their healing? “Do you believe that I can?”

Do we believe He has all power to work in our lives? Do we believe He can handle the problems and circumstances we find ourselves in? Maybe more importantly, are we willing to trust Him with our needs?

3) YES, LORD, YOU KNOW!

“Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.”

– Mat 13:51 KJV

This brings us to the PURPOSE of Christ.

What do I mean by purpose? I mean the will of God. What is His will for me personally? Jesus has a perfectly planned will for my life. The question is do I trust His will? Do I truly believe that He knows best?

4) YES, LORD, YOU DESERVE!

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

– Jhn 21:15-17 KJV

Now we conclude with the PRIORITY of Christ.

What is Christ’s priority for you? I can tell you–to love Him with all you heart, soul, mind, & strength.

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment.”

– Mark 12:30 KJV

Do you love the Lord more than anything else? Is He the priority of your life? The true essence of love isn’t a feeling–it’s an action verb! It’s a choice we make! Jesus made a choice to love us, to die for us, and to take care of us, even while we were sinners! Will you choose to love Him today? Right now?

Say: “Yes, Lord…

  • YOU ARE
  • YOU CAN
  • YOU KNOW
  • YOU DESERVE

This was the first song I sang years ago when I rededicated my life to the Lord. I didn’t know then where God would take me to or what He would see me through but since that time I have been through some hard things. I just want to thank Him for every trial, every storm, and every mountain because without them I’m not sure that I would be close enough to Him. One of the verses in the song says: You have filled my life until I overflowed. All I have is yours to use anyway you choose. You are Lord of all so how can I say no. So I will say yes, Lord, yes. Thank you Pastor for sharing the word. This one really touched my heart.

I hit another road block yesterday about the house I’m living in the lawyer said I have about 8 months to live there but even with him saying that I don’t go by what a lawyer or judge said I’m standing on Gods promises He said he would never leave us or forsake us , though you slay me Lord I trust you. With that I say YES LORD I trust you and you are first in my life.
