MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!

Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV)
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].

Isaiah 58:11-12
11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
12 And [they that shall be] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

We are in a culture that hates to be told what to do. Everyone wants to do what they want when they want. They may be fine for choosing a career choice, but that doesn’t work for serving The Lord. Let’s examine the verses before us.

    #1 STAND IN THE WAYS

Ways – plural. There are always alternatives. We are being sold the lie in our day that there are “alternative lifestyles.” No, not really. It’s just SIN. It’s a sinful lifestyle, but I suppose that is an alternative as well. There are always options. The Word is telling us to “stand in the ways.” You’re, in essence, always at a crossroads. You have “ways” in front of you. Different paths you could take, but not all the right one. In truth, there is only one right way.

John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

This “WAY” is exclusive & inclusive at the same time. All are invited but many will not be willing to do what He is asking!

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Pay careful attention to the word “except.”

Matthew 5:20 (KJV)
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3 (KJV)
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 13:3 (KJV)
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

John 3:3 (KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:5 (KJV)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

John 6:44 (KJV)
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:53 (KJV)
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

John 6:65 (KJV)
And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

John 15:4 (KJV)
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

#2. ASK FOR THE OLD PATHS

Where does this “old path” lead?

1. GUIDED LIFE – “He will guide thee continually”
John 16:13 (KJV)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

2. SATISFIED LIFE – “satisfy thy soul in drought”

3. FRUITFUL LIFE – “like a watered garden”

4. FLOWING LIFE – “like a spring of water”
John 7:38 (KJV)
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Sounds pretty good to me! I’ll take the King’s Highway!

    Isaiah 35:8 (KJV)
And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it [shall be] for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err [therein].
