29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. – Acts 5:29–32 (KJV)
Here’s The Short List:
- To yield, in the Bible, literally means to stand beside, surrender, and become His property.
- Obedience is the only means by which God’s blessings are distributed.
- Obedience & Surrender have great power!
Obedience, surrender, submission – all very unpleasant words in our society today. We have become a people that rebel and reject the thought of obedience. In all of our endless searching for independence we have lost the blessing that comes with biblical obedience.
#1 OBEDIENCE MANIFESTS JESUS
We know, that as believers, He is always with us ,but what a blessing when He makes that presence known!
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. – John 14:21-23
And when he had so said, he shewed unto them [his] hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. – John 20:20
#2 OBEDIENCE CAUSES OVERFLOWING JOY
Not exactly what comes to mind when we think of obedience is it? Some of the most joyless people I’ve ever met are those choosing the lukewarm experience. There’s no real joy in serving Christ half heartedly! They can’t enjoy the world anymore because they know better but they refuse to fully surrender to Christ. The result is an unfulfilled soul. Obedience restores that God-given joy.
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and [that] your joy might be full. – John 15:10-11
#3 OBEDIENCE EMPOWERS PRAYER
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. – 1 John 3:22
Notice the guarantee: “whatsoever we ask.” Also notice the contingency: “because we keep…” We can experience an unprecedented prayer life and all it requires is everything! Sounds simple enough, right? A life completely at God’s disposal is the secret to prevailing prayer!
#4 OBEDIENCE INVITES THE POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST
And we are his witnesses of these things; and [so is] also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. – Acts 5:32
The baptism in the Holy Ghost is all about obedience and surrender. It’s about Him coming to inhabit our lives and being seated as absolute Lord! He desires to empower us for greatness but not our greatness. Many people want Jesus as their Savior but fewer have surrendered to Him as Lord. This is the door that opens the storehouse of Heaven to us – OBEDIENCE!
How are you obeying the Lord today? I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter! Also, please share this BLOG with someone you believe could benefit from the material & messages!
