Consumed by Jealousy

Part 1

Consumed By Jealousy - Sun Feb 28am

It’s mine! I’m not sharing this with anyone!

Jealousy… It’s the green eyed monster that will devour anything it touches. Whether it’s over a relationship or a position, jealousy is unhealthy and enrages people to the point of obsession.

Wait a minute! God is a jealous God…

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Exodus 34:14

If jealousy is such a bad thing, then how can God be jealous and still be good? This may be hard to understand, especially if you’ve ever been directly affected by the human side of jealousy.

First of all, you must understand what jealousy is. Jealousy is claiming the absolute possession of something. No human has any right or authority to claim the absolute possession of anything. We own nothing. We can’t even claim our next heartbeat. The only thing we can say we absolutely possess is a decision to either serve Christ or serve our own flesh.

Jealously is a sin for us because God didn’t create humans to be possessors of anything. God unites a husband and wife in a holy marriage to form a family for fellowship with, but not ownership of, each other. Similarly, He created us to unite and commune with the creator Himself. You and I are made to be a vessel for Christ to live through.

God, unlike man, has absolute power and authority over everything. So God has every right to be jealous over me because He purchased me with His own blood when I was nothing but a slave to sin. I owe Him everything!

I can be glad and take refuge in the jealousy of God. He loves me so much that He won’t share me with anything or anybody. He is totally devoted to sheltering me and protecting me from all harm. Moreover, God longs to fellowship with me, and His heart breaks when I choose another over Him.

Whether it’s human or divine, jealousy is never passive. Prisons are full today because someone acted and carried out their jealous rage. God’s jealousy is just as extreme.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

Zechariah 8:2

God is jealous over you and me with great fury.

24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 4:24

God is a consuming fire. Fire is aggressive and will devour anything in its path, including me. But I have a choice how this fire will consume me. I can either be consumed by God’s jealous love or by His jealous judgement.

It’s no coincidence that hell will be a lake of a fire. Those who have rejected the love extended to them through Jesus Christ will be consumed by the fire of God’s jealous judgement. Without the blood of Christ applied to your life, you can’t stand before a holy, righteous God.

No flesh will glory in His presence because God won’t share His glory with another. God is  also jealous over His name.

…and will be jealous for my holy name;

Ezekiel 39:25

God is jealous when we waste our life to glorify satan, or our own flesh, rather than exalt the name of the Lord. If God’s jealousy doesn’t consume you then something else will. What are you consumed with? Do you obsess over temporary pleasures and pursuits? Are you preoccupied with following your own plans and dreams for your life?

Maybe you have felt the fire of God’s jealous love touch you, but you have not let it consume you. What are you holding back or hiding from God? Nothing is secret to God! He’s just patiently waiting for you to surrender it to Him. Let the light of God’s love shine in every dark nook and cranny of your life until your entire being is sold out to Christ. Don’t hold anything back!

God’s jealousy not only is the driving force of hell, but it will also be the very essence of heaven. Those who receive the precious gift of salvation will also be the recipients of the benefits of a jealous God, a God so obsessed with His children that He has made a heavenly Kingdom to inhabit with them. If you are a blood bought child of this jealous God, you will inherit this Kingdom so secure nothing will ever get in to harm you.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Revelation 21:4

Sadly, hell is reserved for those that are consumed by something other than Jesus Christ. If you aren’t completely consumed by the fire of God’s love, you can be. Surrender every area of your life to Christ and relinquish all ownership. Allow God to be the only rightful possessor of you and all that you have. Be consumed by His wonderful jealousy!

025: Embracing the Already

Embracing The Already - Sun Feb 14am

I’ve been praying for what seems like forever, but nothing has happened yet. I don’t know how long I can go on like this!

It can be discouraging when you’re believing in faith for something, but the miracle never comes.

Consider the heroes of faith…

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Hebrews 11:13

They never received the promises, but pressed on anyway and died in faith. Can we say that of ourselves? If we never witness another healing or miracle, when our faith is really put to the test, are we going to continue to believe?

If the old ship that has sheltered you and carried you safely through so many storms and gales suddenly springs a little leak, it would be foolish to abandon your only refuge for the perils of the ocean. It makes more sense to work a little harder, bail a little water, and cling even tighter and trust that the Old Ship of Zion that has brought you this far will continue to carry you onward until you reach that heavenly shore.

If you feel your faith is wavering and all you want to do is give up, God knows what you need before you even ask. As you tune in to this podcast episode, embrace what God has already provided! Everything you need is in one word—Jesus!
