3 Things Jesus Is Looking For

When was the last time you went shopping for something specific? A new vehicle, an appliance for your house, or maybe just a new pair of shoes. Most likely you had some idea of what you were looking for. You had color, quality, and a possible price in mind.

Have you ever considered that The Lord might be also looking for something specific in us – His creation?

“…Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8 KJV

Without stating the obvious (ok, I’m still going to state the obvious), it seems apparent that The Lord is looking for something unique. I would like to walk through a couple of passages to investigate what that might be.

Maybe you feel you do not possess that kind of faith, but let’s find out. Let me give you  a very simple definition of faith. Faith can be described as a measure of faithfulness toward God. We know, according to Scripture that God is perfectly FAITHFUL, and we are given a measure of faith. Faith then, is a measurement of how faithful I am to Him, His Word, & His will.

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.”   Matt 24:42-46 KJV

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps….13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”    Matt 25:1-4, 13 KJV

Have you given proper diligence to be filled with everything the Lord has provided? Are you lacking in joy, peace, wisdom, love, etc? He has made a way through His precious Spirit!

The foolish virgins in our text were as pure spiritually as they could be, yet they lacked the diligence to be prepared. They were virgins. Their doctrine was pure, their church attendance was perfect, they knew how to pray. Their only fault was they made no provision to remain filled.

This is an ongoing process with The Lord. Many view salvation as a one-time prayer and off we go! Salvation is not an EVENT! It’s an ongoing EXPERIENCE and relationship with the Savior!

“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them….26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”    Matt 25:14-19, 26-30 KJV

We weren’t saved just to take up space. We were created and  saved to bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ. Would you consider your life fruitful? What have you contributed to Him lately? Unfortunately, we have become mostly consumers rather than producers. After all, Jesus has given us His very life – He deserves more out of us!

So, are you displaying the kind of qualities He’s searching for?

“…Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”    Luke 18:8 KJV

The Safest Place on Earth

So what criteria would you use for the “safest place on earth”? Are there certain things that make you feel less safe?

  • Hurricanes?
  • Tornadoes?
  • How about earthquakes?
  • Crime?
  • Blizzards?
  • What about terrorism?
  • Plagues and Diseases?
  • Economic collapse?
  • Political corruption?
  • Wildfires?

Safest Place on Earth

A quick search on Google leaves no shortage of “safest place” lists. Each with their own set of criteria. Everything from lowest crime rates to lowest number of natural disasters.

The truth is, it’s nearly impossible to define. Probably because it’s a moving target. The day in which we live things are changing – fast! What once was considered a safe place can become a catastrophe overnight. Riots break out over the smallest incidents. A new found disease can change a country in a matter of weeks. One earthquake can cripple an entire nation.

So where if the safest place on earth? If you knew where it was, would you be willing to move there? I am pleased to report to you today that I have located it! It’s a very unique place where all basic needs are met. A place where peace exceeds all understanding. A place with fullness of joy and pleasures forever.

Sign me up, right?

As wonderful as this sounds, it’s not a place free from problems. It has all the usual difficulties of life. It retains the possibility of disaster and danger. It can even be a place of sickness and distress. You might be asking if I’ve lost my mind about now. Stay with me for a moment.

The safest place on earth isn’t geographical. It isn’t a building or a bunker. It’s not a particular governmental structure. Want to know where it is?

Psalm 91
1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

The safest place on earth is:

In the Will of God!

You can be anywhere on the planet and be under His protection and care. I’ve often shared this with parents whose children were leaving home. I’ve tried to reassure them that if their children are in the will of God, they’re safer than in their parent’s arms.
That “secret place of the most High”, is the greatest place of existence! Now take moment and read the entire Psalm.
Psalm 91
1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9  Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11  For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13  Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

That sounds like a place I want to live!

I’ve had the privilege of traveling to different parts of the world. Some safe and some not so safe. The common factor in all of them was the fact that I was in the will of God. I’m as safe abroad as in my own home if I’m in His will!

Are you living in the safest place in the world? Are you serving Jesus and walking in His Word. He has promised to care for those that profess His name.

If not, you can “move” today! Let Jesus be Lord of your life. Enter into His secret place – the place where you can abide under His shadow.

The #1 Way To Get More Today!

Do you ever feel like you’re just spinning your wheels? I call it the “quicksand” effect, where the more you try the less you accomplish. If you’re like me, many times you struggle to make progress only to feel like you’re losing in the end. I want to share with you the #1 Way To Get More Today!

Get More

Remember those ridiculous words, “it’s better to give than to receive”? We usually got that speech either during Christmas or when we were begging our parents for something new. As a kid, I could never process that statement. It might be a wonderful lesson in generosity, but without explanation, it just makes no sense.

Why is it better to give than to receive? Is it just an exercise in character building or something more?

Acts 20:35

35  I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

In our economy, it’s primarily about………..ME! Our economy revolves around stockpiling for ourselves. Our property, our happiness, our future, etc. Everything comes back to working for my interests. God’s economy, on the other hand, is just the opposite. He doesn’t operate as we do.

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God’s economy works on one primary principle: GIVE. Yes, GIVE. We tend to look at what we are losing when we give – God looks at what is gained by giving.

John 3:16

16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Carefully examine that verse again. He loved – He gave. It’s God’s way. He knows the only true way to gain is to give! He loves and desires to gain the whole world. So what did He do? He gave. And not just any old thing – His own Son!

 Luke 6:38

38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

What a concept! To gain we give. If you want to gain more – give more!

Matthew 16:25-26

25  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

The #1 Way To Gain Today is to GIVE yourself away! Jesus did!

You might be asking, “What do I have to give?”

 1. TIME

Of these things we have in common, TIME is the most valuable. It’s disappearing every second. It’s the most precious resource you have. Employers pay you for your time. Your life is measured in terms of your time.

You can give your time to God, your spouse, your children, and the world around you. It means more than money or gadgets. It’s something you can’t recover so whatever you spend it on must be important! The time you give to others will give you a greater return than anything you could put in your pocket.

You are unique and you have unique talents to give. Your personality, or the ability to help someone through a difficult time. You might have a gift to make someone laugh. To share insight into a situation. Experiences you’ve had that others need to hear about. There are qualities that you have that needs to be shared! Use your uniqueness to bless The Lord and others!

You may not have as much as others but you have something to give! This is where most get uncomfortable because it strikes at the heart of this entire lesson. You can usually determine what someone worships by their checkbook. We spend our treasures on what we love. Our hobbies, toys, etc. The Bible tells us that our treasure is an indicator of where our heart is. (Mat. 6:21)

Are you giving to the right things. To The Lord? Your family? Are you feeling your insides tightening up right now? Maybe you’ve allowed temporary things to dictate your life and your future. Let go of some things. Give some things away, and hold on very loosely to the things of this world.

What’s the #1 way you can get more today? Give More!

1 Thing You Can Not Afford To Do!

Sounds a bit like the beginning of a parental speech doesn’t it? “Don’t ever run with scissors” or, “stop cramming marshmallows into your mouth.” Well, not exactly, but it is just as important.

Painters on Brooklyn Bridge

Painters on Brooklyn Bridge

I want to have all the right answers. I want to fix stuff. When someone comes to me with a problem, I want to be able to make it go away. (I know how unrealistic this is, believe me)

We are all confronted with problems everyday. Different kinds of problems maybe, but plenty of them nonetheless.  That’s a no-brainer, but it’s what happens next that counts.

Just this week I’ve been involved with a family that has had multiple deaths in a very short amount of time. As a matter of fact, that makes about THREE families in recent weeks that have had to deal with similar events. This particular family though has really been overwhelmed by tragedy.

Their question is simple, “How do we make it through this?” They’re not even asking God why, necessarily. They trust God. They just don’t know how to keep going with such a load on their shoulders.

There is only one thing I know to tell them:

It’s not necessarily about making it through – It’s more important not to give up!

Making it through this problem or struggle may be all you’re interested in. We’re wired this way. Something hurts and our reflexes tell us to get out of the situation. Something’s burning your hand and you jerk it away. It’s our natural inclination. Get this over with as soon as possible.

Reality is, some things do not end so quickly. Some things take longer to get through than others. So what do you do in the meantime?

You Don’t Quit!

Can't Win If you Don't Play!

I know you were waiting for something more profound than that. Something deep and enlightening. Some divine mystery brought to light before your very eyes.

Truth is, making it through is not a quick exit door. It’s a bunch of tiny decisions made everyday to keep going.

The one thing you cannot afford to do is QUIT! You could be closer than you think. Your breakthrough could be just around the corner.

What happens if you quit?

There will always be a haunting “what if”. “If I hadn’t given up, what would have been?”  “If I’d only given the marriage another chance.” ” If only I’d forgiven that person one more time.” ” If only I’d trusted God with the results.”

No one wants to live the rest of their life with only a “what if”. You can read a great post related to this called: COULD’VE, SHOULD’VE, WOULD’VE, DIDN’T (click the link)

Others are watching you. What example will others see in your decisions?

Now, not only did you quit this time, but you will shy away from future challenges much more quickly!

You cannot win if you’re not in the game! You must not quit!

 Matthew 11:28-30

28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
