Every Good & Perfect Gift

Every Good & Perfect Gift

James 1:12–17 (KJV)

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

The purpose of this simple article is to remind us of the goodness of our God. To explain that, a few points are necessary.

Luke 11:9–13 (KJV 1900)

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

  • Remember, it’s according to God’s assessment of what is “good” for us!

  • May not seem good at the time.

Romans 8:28 (KJV 1900)

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalm 84:11 (KJV 1900)

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield:

The Lord will give grace and glory:

No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

  • God cannot improve or decline.

  • He’s the same forever!

  • Goodness is part of His very nature!

  • Pay careful attention to that word gifts.

  • satan never gives gifts!

Romans 3:23 (KJV 1900)

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 (KJV 1900)

23 For the WAGES of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • We DESERVE death – our WAGES for sin.

  • We RECEIVE eternal life – our GIFT through Jesus Christ!

  • The fact that it’s a gift says I’m undeserving!

Are you thankful today for His great gift of mercy & grace? Do we truly realize the magnitude of the gift we have received and the price associated with it? Take time TODAY to thank Jesus Christ for His unmerited favor.

Proverbs 10:22

22 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich,

And he addeth no sorrow with it.
