NEVER DO THIS!
Sounds a bit like the beginning of a parental speech doesn’t it? “Don’t ever run with scissors” or, “stop cramming marshmallows into your mouth.” Well, not exactly, but it is just as important.
I want to have all the right answers. I want to fix stuff. When someone comes to me with a problem, I want to be able to make it go away. (I know how unrealistic this is, believe me)
We are all confronted with problems everyday. Different kinds of problems maybe, but plenty of them nonetheless. That’s a no-brainer, but it’s what happens next that counts.
Just this week I’ve been involved with a family that has had multiple deaths in a very short amount of time. As a matter of fact, that makes about THREE families in recent weeks that have had to deal with similar events. This particular family though has really been overwhelmed by tragedy.
Their question is simple, “How do we make it through this?” They’re not even asking God why, necessarily. They trust God. They just don’t know how to keep going with such a load on their shoulders.
There is only one thing I know to tell them:
It’s not necessarily about making it through – It’s more important not to give up!
Making it through this problem or struggle may be all you’re interested in. We’re wired this way. Something hurts and our reflexes tell us to get out of the situation. Something’s burning your hand and you jerk it away. It’s our natural inclination. Get this over with as soon as possible.
Reality is, some things do not end so quickly. Some things take longer to get through than others. So what do you do in the meantime?
You Don’t Quit!
I know you were waiting for something more profound than that. Something deep and enlightening. Some divine mystery brought to light before your very eyes.
Truth is, making it through is not a quick exit door. It’s a bunch of tiny decisions made everyday to keep going.
The one thing you cannot afford to do is QUIT! You could be closer than you think. Your breakthrough could be just around the corner.
What happens if you quit?
1. IF YOU QUIT YOU’LL NEVER KNOW “WHAT IF”
There will always be a haunting “what if”. “If I hadn’t given up, what would have been?” “If I’d only given the marriage another chance.” ” If only I’d forgiven that person one more time.” ” If only I’d trusted God with the results.”
No one wants to live the rest of their life with only a “what if”. You can read a great post related to this called: COULD’VE, SHOULD’VE, WOULD’VE, DIDN’T (click the link)
2. IF YOU QUIT OTHERS WILL FOLLOW YOUR LEAD – AND THEY WILL QUIT ALSO
Others are watching you. What example will others see in your decisions?
3. IF YOU QUIT YOUR CONFIDENCE WILL BE DEPLETED
Now, not only did you quit this time, but you will shy away from future challenges much more quickly!
4. IF YOU QUIT YOUR VICTORY WILL BE LOST
You cannot win if you’re not in the game! You must not quit!
NEVER DO THIS! – YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO! – DON’T GIVE UP!
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
